Scappoose High School is excited to offer J-Term during the month of January. The term will be 17 school days long and allow students to participate in three classes per day. Each class will be approximately 100 minutes long.
The purpose of the J-Term Survey is to expose students and parents to all the courses SHS staff have proposed. The SHS counseling department will use the survey results to narrow the focus of classes that will actually be offered when students forecast for J-Term classes in November.
Please review the J-Term Survey Course Catalog. Students that do not have access to the electronic version of the course guide online will be provided with a paper copy.
Please read all course descriptions carefully! There are over 70 amazing classes that have been proposed. Please note any course fees ore prerequisites listed.
The J-Term Survey is an exact copy of the electronic survey students will take on Friday, October 7. Please complete the paper survey in preparation for electronic survey; so the electronic survey will only take a few minutes to complete.
The courses that students choose on the J-Term Survey will NOT be used for placement into a class. This information is used solely by the SHS Counseling department to determine which classes will be offered to students during forecasting in November.
MESSAGE FROM ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT
The Athletic Office is asking that all student in 8th grade and under be accompanied by an adult to athletic events. For safety purposes the lower east end of the football stadium near the baseball complex will be closed during football games for any activities. Student's should be in the bleachers and if they are younger than high school age they must be accompanied by an adult to gain entrance to the game. Thank you for your understanding.
Honduras Research Expedition THIS Summer
Science Teacher, Amanda Darlak is partnering up with Operation Wallacea (Opwall) to offer a Research Expedition in Honduras for students this summer. Students will spend their first week in the endemic rich cloud forests of the Cusuco National Park. They will be on site with an international team of academics who are collecting data on the carbon, biodiversity and community benefits of the forest. The second week will operate from one of two marine research sites run by Operation Wallacea – Utila or Roatan. The main research objective at these sites is to complete annual monitoring of the coral and reef fish communities so the effectiveness of the management strategies at the two sites can be assessed.
Dr. Ian Hendy, from Opwall, is scheduled to come to Scappoose HS to present information on the trip to Honduras on November 15, time still to be determined. A minimum of 8 students is needed for the trip to run.
Dates: June 28th to July 11th 2017
Cost: $2800 -$3300 (cost range includes tuition and flights)
